Chicago Bears Training Camp: 5 recent standout players

Cornerback Prince Amukamara
One of the biggest knocks on Prince Amukamara over his career has been the inability to come up with interceptions. Now, I am on the side of the argument that says a cornerback does not need gaudy interception numbers in order to be considered a good player. But, a handful here and there wouldn’t hurt Amukamara’s status.
So far in camp, he’s come up with some big plays. Particularly this week, he’s picked the ball off regularly. On Thursday, Amukamara came up with not one, but two picks on the day.
There have also been a couple of passes that you could have deemed as drops by a wide receiver where Amukamara was in coverage. For example, Josh Bellamy broke outside to the left sideline on a route and was unable to reel in the ball. Amukamara was in coverage and, as much as I would love to say it was all on Bellamy, the defense was there. It wasn’t an easy catch, and that’s due to the coverage in place by Amukamara.
With both he and Kyle Fuller back under Vic Fangio, anchoring the secondary, this defense could really be something special. If Amukamara can come up with just a couple more big plays turnover-wise, the unit will go to a completely different level.
