Chicago Bears should consider these Supplemental Draft prospects
Running Back Martayveus Carter
Every so often, a Grand Valley State player finds his way into the NFL. Perhaps Carter is the next in line.
The scoop on Marty Carter is that he was productive in three seasons in Allendale, Michigan. Weighing in at 6 feet and 200 pounds, he chalked up 3,728 ground yards on 513 totes for 36 scores.
Strengths: This guy strikes me as a ‘find the hole, don’t stop moving your feet’ type of back. So a quickness and shifty style can make him a good change-of-pace player that will decimate defenses in the open field. For his statue, he does a remarkable job battling through contact, breaking free, and falling forward. So he can likely soak touches for the starter. He could hold some value in a rapid-fire aerial/ground attack offense.
Weaknesses: While he does appear to pass the eye test as a good athlete, we need to bear in mind all the damage he did come against DII teams. Can he replicate the same production at the faster professional level? Also, while he does a nice job hitting the hole, what will happen when the play falls apart and he needs to change directions? Going back to his athleticism, he can pull the escape artist card against weaker competition. It remains to be seen against the highest level.
Pro Comp: Tevin Coleman
Supplemental Projection: Undrafted
