Defensive Back Adonis Alexander

With a name like “Adonis”, you can probably bet on this guy drawing attention on his name alone.

This former Virginia Tech Hokie defensive back stands tall at 6-feet-3 and weighs in at 207 pounds. He was declared academically ineligible for the upcoming college football season, which sparked his decision to opt for the supplemental draft.

So, what can you say about this guy minus his build? Well, he fits the mold of a towering cornerback that the Seattle Seahawks have loved hoarding for years. He did have a cup of coffee at safety but did operate mainly at the boundary. There is still a lot of work to do, however, as Alexander is far from a polished prospect.

Strengths:

To begin with, he’s a willing helper in run-support. His size and length will definitely help him out against bigger receivers and move tight ends. He does have ball skills, as evidenced by his seven picks and 17 break-ups in three collegiate seasons. His versatility could help him get snaps or even play multiple positions on defense. So he could be a guy to look at in dime and nickel packages.

Weaknesses:

One of his big no-no’s is that he is a low tackler, which will get him in trouble (especially against top running backs). He will also get cooked in coverage if he doesn’t ‘win the route’ from the get-go. There are also times where he will play undisciplined. Gamblers in the secondary can lead to surefire trouble when going up against the best quarterbacks in the league. The alarming thing should be that he regressed over his career at Blacksburg since year one.

Pro Comp: Poor-man’s Mark Barron

Supplemental Projection: Rounds 5-6
