Bold prediction number four: Kylie Fitts puts an even shorter leash on Aaron Lynch

One of the main concerns coming into the offseason is what the Bears will do with the pass rush. All of the pressure is on Leonard Floyd to be the focal point of the unit. In order for Floyd to play up to his potential, he needs a compliment pass rusher.

The Bears currently have a void on the other side of Floyd. The favorite to fill that void is Aaron Lynch, whom the Bears brought in via free agency. Lynch has the potential to be a solid edge rusher. However, Lynch has to prove he can keep focus and avoid injuries.

So far in the offseason, Lynch has not gotten through a portion without suffering a minor injury. This could be a foreshadowing of what to expect throughout the season when the competition ramps up. This is why fans were puzzled why the team didn’t put much of an emphasis on the pass rush over the spring.

In the sixth round of this past draft, the Bears might have found a steal in edge Kylie Fitts. Injuries have held him back over his career but, when healthy, he had the talent of a second or third round prospect.

My bold prediction is that the coaches will get enamored with Fitts’ speed and power combination off the edge. That, in turn, will put a short leash on Lynch’s starting job. Don’t be shocked to see Fitts playing significant snaps by week five.
