Chicago Blackhawks: 6 potential moves to get back to contention
By Clay Swallow
Trade for Justin Faulk
Here is the top-four defenseman that Hawks fans have been dreaming about ever since it was rumored that they had interest in him. The Blackhawks are in desperate need of a right-shot defenseman that can quarterback the power-play and give Duncan Kieth some stability on the other side of the ice.
Faulk seems like a perfect fit to be that guy, especially with the Hurricanes having a fire sale at the moment. New general manager Don Waddell has come in and is trying to make changes while rebuilding quickly.
Faulk could be costly as well, so this is a move that should only be made if the Blackhawks are serious about contending this year and are completely comfortable with Corey Crawford’s health. It was rumored that the Hurricanes wanted Saad in return, although that has since been shot down by Bowman.
I would have to assume that the Blackhawks would have to part with either a first or second round pick in next year’s draft along with a top prospect such as Chad Krys. Krys is ready to turn pro in the coming year and would be a replacement for Faulk when the Canes are ready to compete again.
