Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks make a lot of sense for LaVine for a few reasons. First, LaVine is a guy who can sell tickets, and Mark Cuban is a businessman. Figure that out one out, it’s not difficult.

Second, and one of the funnier reasons, is the fact that the Mavericks just love them some bad contracts. Look at two of the worst contracts in the NBA right now: Harrison Barnes (due $24 million next season) and Wesley Matthews (due $18 million next season).

Yes, I know, Matthews and LaVine play the same position and with Barnes there it would be difficult to fit all three of them in the same starting lineup. Maybe they play small ball and roll Barnes to the four and Dirk Nowitzki to the five — unlikely, but who knows.

All I’m saying is that LaVine will get a good amount of money and the Mavericks do have cash to spend. They enter July 1st with a projected $30.8 million in cap space — I know, hard to believe with those two aforementioned deals. It’s easier to digest when you know the best player in the history of their franchise — Nowitzki — is taking pay cuts to stay with the team.
