Falling Star

Another item to keep an eye on Thursday night is whether a player unexpectedly falls in the draft. This could happen for a couple of reasons. First, a player may not be as highly regarded by the top-teams as some have speculated. Second, a team might reach for a player in the top of the first round. This could have a domino effect on the rest of the top-10 as teams could have options they did not expect.

So who are the candidates who could surprisingly go higher than expected causing others to slip? One possibility is Lonnie Walker. Initially projected somewhere in the bottom of the first-round, Walker has been skyrocketing up draft boards. He is currently projected to go as high as no. 10.

Bleacher Report has reported that the Knicks might be interested in him at no. 9. And if you have followed the Knicks at all since Patrick Ewing retired, you know they’re capable of anything in the draft. Perhaps they trade up for him.  Hey, I know it might sound crazy, but we’re talking about the Knicks.

Other candidates to go higher than expected are Trae Young and Wendell Carter. If either of them are drafted in the top five, the Bulls could benefit as another player might fall to them at no. 7. So who could that player be? There are a couple of players that come to mind, but the most intriguing one is Luka Doncic.

If Doncic is somehow available at no. 7 what do the Bulls do? Once projected to be the no. 2 overall pick, Doncic has seen his stock dip just a little bit. The Sacramento Kings seem not to be too high on him. If the Kings are not very high on Doncic, perhaps other teams aren’t as well. The most compelling scenario would be if Doncic, Young, and Mo Bamba are all available at no. 7. It would be extremely interesting to see what the Bulls would do in that situation. My heart tells me they’d screw it up.
