If you make a promise, keep it.

I hate to say it, but in today’s world of sports, a little bit of honesty would be nice to see. Professional sports are a business and, sometimes, the truth gets stretched a bit. Promises are made, incentives are offered and bait is dangled only to have the player baffled in the end as to what went wrong.

Hutchison is a mature and hard-working kid who boasts a lot of potential as an NBA player, so the Bulls should do the right thing and uphold their end of the bargain by drafting him if he’s there.

Again, the report was not necessarily confirmed. However, if there was a promise made by John Paxson or Gar Forman, it needs to be kept.

Talent, character and work ethic — I’d take all three if I’m the Bulls. The work ethic and character are two things often overlooked when it comes to draft prospects in any sport. Talent is great, but if you don’t have what it takes to be a man of integrity, what’s the point?

One last reason to do the right thing: Hutchison is one of the more effective players in the draft without the ball in his hands. Not only is he a solid defender, but he moves well. He almost reminds you of someone like Kawhi Leonard, who came into the league with similar skills. Being able to contribute without the ball in your hands is tough to do, and Hutchison has that ability.

If the Bulls made a promise, they should keep it — that is, if Hutchison is there at no. 22. Sports Illustrated currently has him ranked 17th. His stock seems to be rising a little, the closer we get to the draft. But, rest assured, if he’s available for the Bulls, I think he comes to Chicago.
