Chicago Bulls big board for 2018 NBA Draft
By Ryan Heckman
18. Center Mitchell Robinson, Chalmette High School
It is clear that the Bulls are going to need to upgrade their front court this offseason, whether it be via the draft or free agency — or even a trade. If they choose to do so in the draft, they have tons of options. Fortunately for the Bulls, this class is loaded with talent at the center position. It also features a few guys who have what looks like an incredibly low floor, yet huge ceilings.
One of the players who fits that mold is Mitchell Robinson, who originally committed to Western Kentucky out of Chalmette High School, last year. But, Robinson chose to de-commit and ended up spending a year training and honing his game elsewhere. While he’s been working with professional trainers to get him ready for draft season, one still has to wonder what a year off from competitive basketball is going to do for him.
Looking at the tape, there is a reason to get excited about the possibility of Robinson, though. His 7-foot-1 frame and ability to score in multiple ways should get you excited. On top of that, the kid blocks a few shots — six per game in his last year at Chalmette.
One question I think teams are looking at seriously, however, is whether he has the potential to be a guy like DeAndre Jordan or if his ceiling screams JaVale McGee. Not to particularly knock McGee, but as a first-round talent, I’d be disappointed if that’s how Robinson turned out.
