Chicago Bulls big board for 2018 NBA Draft
By Ryan Heckman
8. Point Guard Trae Young, Oklahoma
Ah, yes. I surely put Trae Young right after Bridges on purpose. Why, you ask? Well, a couple of us here at Da Windy City have had an interesting argument going on lately. If it came down to Young or Bridges, who should the Bulls pick?
Well, it’s purely based off of what kind of player you’re looking for. Young certainly has a lot of upside, especially as a scorer. One of the funnier things I’ve seen lately is the notion that Young hogs the ball.
Did anyone else see what Young had to work with last year? The Oklahoma Sooners were less-than-desirable to watch as a team. The only thing that kept my eyes on the television was the fact that Young could explode at any given point in time.
While averaging about 27 points per game last year, Young also managed to post nearly nine assists (8.7) per game as well — again, on a fairly mediocre team. Young’s shooting stats may be skewed a bit, because he took so many shots. With more help around him, I would bet his efficiency from that standpoint would only increase.
Young has a lot to like about him, but again, the Bulls would be taking a chance based on ceiling. He just seems like a guy who has an incredibly low floor, as well. If Young panned out as what some think he could be, though, the Bulls will have struck gold.
