The Chicago Bears’ offense should be exciting and full of speed this year. So who’s the fastest player? Tarik Cohen and Taylor Gabriel debate.

More from Da Windy City

The Chicago Bears’ offense will hit the field in 2018 with a completely new look. While it remains to be seen just how productive they will be, one thing is certain. They will be a much faster unit. Not only do they expect to pick up the pace and tempo, but the personnel will be much faster than 2017.

Two of those speedsters are Tarik Cohen and newcomer Taylor Gabriel. Last season, Cohen was likely the fastest player on the team. He was certainly the most exciting. When he got the ball in space or any separation from defenders, it was a thrill to watch him work. Once he got daylight, it was nearly impossible to catch him.

So it makes sense that Cohen would still believe he’s the fastest on the team. In fact, he stated as much the other day while commenting on Gabriel’s speed. Although he was sure to give Gabriel props for his remarkable 24 MPH speed, he was careful to clarify he’s still the “top dog.”

In steps Taylor Gabriel, who simply wasn’t going to let Cohen’s comments go without a challenge. Gabriel was quick to respond. Not only does Gabriel think he’s faster, but he doesn’t even think Cohen could beat him once if given ten chances.

The always entertaining Cohen wasn’t about to let those comments go. He issued the following playful, yet direct statement to Gabriel. There is certainly no ambiguity in that statement. It could also be interpreted as a direct challenge to Gabriel.

Notice he didn’t say “I would,” but rather “I will.” Could a friendly foot-race be in the future? Will we settle this debate once and for all? I know Bears fans would love to see it. Heck, they could even sell tickets and donate the money to a local charity. It would be worth the price of admission.

Bottom Line

So who wears the crown of “fastest Bear?” Well, the answer may not be as important as the fact that we’re having this debate. Not only is it exciting to have true playmakers with speed for once, but their confidence is refreshing. The 2018 version of the Chicago Bears has more confidence than any team in recent memory. Hopefully this newly discovered “swag” will translate into wins.
