In a point guard driven league, ceiling matters

So, Young isn’t exactly a top-tier athlete and Sexton was questionable at best when it came to getting his teammates involved. Young doesn’t look as though he will ever be an elite defender and Sexton needs to work a lot on his three-point shot.

I get it. There are flaws — some of them bigger than others.

But, when it comes to ceiling, these guys have it. Young, for starters, has that killer instinct, scoring mentality. The man comes to play and fill up the basket early and often.

Young’s movement beyond the arc is stunning at times. He uses screens beautifully. He moves well with the ball in his hands, giving him the chance to create shots for himself. He can score in many different ways. His ceiling is that of a poor man’s Stephen Curry — and, even a poor man’s Curry would be much better than anyone the Bulls have now.

Sexton, meanwhile, is the more physical point guard. He’s the athlete. Sexton should be a great defender, assuming he develops further and everything translates as it should. He was known as a fantastic defender going into last season, but some wonder whether playing on a poor team affected his desire on that end at times.

Maybe Sexton was just worn down from feeling as though he was carrying the team too much offensively, as well. He can certainly score — we know that. I have seen Sexton’s ceiling compared to that of a Steve Francis in his prime, which would once again be fine by me.

I like the idea of either of these guys on the Bulls. Are they the absolute perfect pick at no. 7? No, but if Paxson and Forman are convinced by one of them, fans may have to get used to the idea of liking these guys.
