Chicago Cubs: Day 1 draft grades, MLB comparisons

We take a look at how the Chicago Cubs did on Day 1of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Monday night, the 2018 Major League Baseball amateur draft kicked off. While White Sox fans didn’t have long to wait to hear their team’s pick, Chicago Cubs fans weren’t as lucky. That’s because the Cubs didn’t make their first selection until No. 24 overall. Though Cubs fans will happily watch their team select this late in the first-round since it means their season was a success.

Although the Cubs had a late first-round pick, they still had a fairly busy night. This is because they made a total of four picks in the first two rounds.
In addition to the No. 24 pick the Cubs had the No. 62 pick in the second round. Additionally, they held two compensatory picks which were No. 77 and No. 78 overall.
For the Cubs, it was an interesting night. They snagged a player in the first round who is a fairly low risk, then turned around and reached on a few players.
In any event, we take a look at all four picks and evaluate how Chicago did. We also take a peek at some of the player comparisons these draftees are drawing.
