Chicago Cubs MLB Draft Big Board
#9: Trevor Larnach
Position: Outfield
School: Oregon State
The first college hitter on this list, Oregon State’s Trevor Larnach has made a meteoric rise due to his performance this season.
The lefty hit .330 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs in Corvallis this season. Larnach’s draft range is right around when the Cubs pick, and his performance in 2018 certainly aids his case to be picked at 24.
Larnach has a great arm and glove in right, but the Cubs current situation (Jason Heyward) and future situation (Bryce Harper?) in right field might not make Larnach the wisest pick.
Nonetheless, Trevor Larnach has done nothing but prove his case to be selected at 24 no matter the future outlook with his performance this season.
Could the Cubs go out and pick Larnach despite this winter’s free agency?
#10: Seth Beer
Position: First Base/Designated Hitter
School: Clemson
The most polarizing player in the draft, Clemson’s Seth Beer has gone from the surefire top pick to a fringe first rounder.
Beer has struggled ever since his record-setting freshman season, hitting .301 with 22 home runs for the Tigers in 2018.
The concerns for Beer stem from his history with a wood bat, as Beer has struggled in back-to-back summers for Team USA using a wood bat. NCAA teams use BB-core aluminum bats, so the disparity between the two are a major cause for concern for Beer given the fact that all levels of pro baseball use wood bats.

Beer could go anywhere in the first round, second round, or even third round. Given the question marks theres really no telling where Seth Beer could go.
Theo Epstein loves his lefty power hitters (i.e Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo), and Seth Beer is clearly the best lefty power hitter in the draft. It would be a major risk, but Seth Beer is a serious option at 24.
