Chicago Cubs MLB Draft Big Board
#7: Anthony Seigler
Position: Catcher/Switch Pitcher
School: Cartersville High School (Ga.)
Possibly the most interesting player in the draft, Georgia prep prospect Anthony Seigler has made headlines as a switch-hitter and switch-pitcher.
A solid prospect at the plate and behind the plate, Seigler is one of the most developable guys in the draft given his flexibility and potential in multiple areas of the field.
The Cubs have Willson Contreras as a fixture behind the plate for the foreseeable future, but Seigler’s raw potential would lead to Cubs to slowly bring him along, leaving little worry about his potential playing time four or five years down the line.
Seigler is ranked by MLB.com as the number 46 prospect in the draft, so for once availability won’t be a concern for the Cubs.
Seigler could be a stretch at 24, but his potential at and behind the plate could lead the Cubs to take the patient path and take a chance on him at 24.
#8: Kumar Rocker
Position: RHP
School: North Oconee High School (Ga.)
The most likely pick on this list, Kumar Rocker, like fellow Georgia prep arm Ethan Hankins, was viewed at as a top-ten pick before struggling in 2018.
Rocker consistently hits upper-90s with his fastball, making him another high school righty with serious top-of-the-rotation potential.
Rocker’s secondary stuff needs more work, but he fits well into the late-end of the first round, and his great fastball makes him a great pick for the Cubs.
Rocker has been linked to the Cubs throughout the draft process, therefore the Vanderbilt commit has a great chance of ending up with the Cubs given the fact that other prep arms will go before him as well.
Rocker has the potential to be the top arm from this draft class when its all said and done, but the Cubs will have to be accepting of a potential risk in taking him.
