Chicago Bulls: 5 potential replacements for Zach LaVine
By Ryan Heckman
Zach LaVine is a free agent. While he wants to remain with the Chicago Bulls, he could end up gone. Who would replace him?
This summer, the free agency period should be less than exciting for the Chicago Bulls. Most of the notable names won’t give Chicago a second of their time along their tours. However, the Bulls do have the chance to land one particular name that’s a little bit bigger in their minds — Zach LaVine.
The swingman is an unrestricted free agent this summer, a year after coming over from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade featuring Jimmy Butler going the opposite direction. LaVine came back after suffering a torn ACL and looked like he had the potential to be the same player he was prior to injury, if not better.
While LaVine has remained on his stance that he wants to stay with the Bulls, we all know that money and the opportunity to win could change all of that. First off, if another team offers him anything near a max contract, do the Bulls match? Personally, I don’t think they should. But, that’s not my decision to make.
If LaVine gets the chance to go somewhere and compete for a title right away, does he take it? Even if it is less money than what the Bulls offer him, I wouldn’t blame LaVine for wanting to win elsewhere. It’s only natural, and other stars have made it the more popular thing to do over the last decade or so.
What if LaVine doesn’t return to Chicago? The team has to have a backup plan. Are they going to get anybody as good as LaVine right away? I doubt it. But, there are some. guys out there via the draft and free agency who could fill the void on the wing. Here are five of the more plausible names the Bulls could end up with.
