3 reasons the Chicago Bulls should trade for Karl-Anthony Towns
By Ryan Heckman
Draft capital well spent
If the Bulls were to pull off some kind of trade for Towns, they would likely have to include this year’s no. 7 overall pick in the deal. That should be a no-brainer if I’m John Paxson and Gar Forman.
This year’s class has a lot of great prospects who are even worth trading up for if need be, but none of them are as good as Towns is currently — nor as good as Towns will be in the future. You have to look at it this way: Would you rather have someone like Mo Bamba, Trae Young or Wendell Carter versus Towns?
Not a chance.
I would even venture to say I would rather have Towns over guys like DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic. Give me Towns over every single player in this draft — period. It doesn’t matter what draft pick we’re talking. If Towns is coming to Chicago, you trade the pick — end of discussion.
You are talking about a guy who averaged over 21 points and 12 rebounds per game this year as the team’s second option behind Jimmy Butler. We all saw last year what Towns can do if he’s the first option in an offense, and that was in only his second season. Towns has tons of growth still ahead of him, like the steps he took this past season shooting from beyond the arc.
Towns improved his three-point shooting to over 42 percent. Remember, the guy plays center and can still post up in the paint. He is only 22 years old. The ceiling is so high for this kid, he’s worth everything the Bulls could shell out to get him.
