Why LeBron James will never surpass Michael Jordan
By Ryan Heckman
Jordan will always be superior when it matters most
Since this argument could always use more facts, let’s throw some out there, shall we?
-
Jordan had 38 games of 40-plus points in the playoffs.
-
James has 22 games of 40-plus points in the playoffs after having played 46 more games
-
LeBron has shot less than 40 percent in five playoff series
-
Jordan only shot less than 40 percent in a single playoff series
-
LeBron has scored under 20 points eight times in the NBA Finals
-
Jordan scored under 20 points in the playoffs just six times and never scored under 20 in the NBA Finals
-
Jordan never lost in the NBA Finals (6-0)
-
LeBron has lost five times in the NBA Finals (3-5) and that includes a sweep
Those are facts, folks — plain and simple facts. Jordan was far superior in the playoffs than LeBron has ever been. On top of that, Jordan was hands-down the better player in the NBA Finals. If you want to debate regular season statistics using those all-time records, go ahead.
I’m here for the playoffs. I’m here for the NBA Finals. I’m here to debate greatness, not just regular season accolades.

This all may have come across a bit harsh, so let me once again say that I respect the player that LeBron James has always been. He’s phenomenal. He is one of the best to ever do it.
But, keep his name — as well as anyone else’s — out of any discussion of “Greatest of All-Time.”
In fact, don’t even have that discussion to begin with, and we’re cool.
