2018 Chicago Bears 53-man roster prediction version 1.0
By Ryan Heckman
Running Backs
Jordan Howard
The guy Bears fans all know and love will be the featured back in the offense. After an offseason with a little bit of speculation on whether or not he would be traded, Jordan Howard is staying in Chicago and will continue to be the force he has been over the first two years of his career.
Tarik Cohen
If there was a more underutilized player in football last year than Tarik Cohen, please, tell me. Cohen possesses that “wild card” characteristic to him that Nagy is already raving about. Thinking of how Cohen will be used this upcoming season should get every fan excited. His position on the roster is obviously locked in.
Benny Cunningham
The Bears chose to bring back Benny Cunningham this offseason, and I think it’ll be more due to his contribution on special teams. With Cohen’s usage on offense likely going a lot higher in 2018, he may or may not have his time on special teams cut down. I think Cohen still returns punts, but beyond that, we don’t know. Cunningham is a very, very good third back. He stays.
Ryan Nall
One of the more talked about undrafted free agents is running back Ryan Nall out of Oregon State. If Nagy wants to carry a fullback, I think Nall fits the profile more so than Michael Burton. Nall gives you a little more athleticism and is a proven short-yardage back if needed. With Cohen being such a heavily-used player at multiple positions, I believe the Bears will end up carrying four running backs, and Nall is lucky number four to make the roster.
