2018 Chicago Bears 53-man roster prediction version 1.0
By Ryan Heckman
Quarterbacks
Mitch Trubisky
Stating the obvious, MItch Trubisky will be the starter. The offseason was focused on him and the offense, and he’ll look to take the next step forward as a second-year pro.
Chase Daniel
The backup will be Chase Daniel. Both he and Trubisky’s place on the roster are set in stone. Nagy went out and essentially hand-picked Daniel to be his backup mainly because of his experience in the system. Daniel will be huge in Trubisky’s development, despite having hardly any playing time over a decade in the NFL.
Daniel has always shown he can be a capable backup based on his practices and knowledge of the game. He wouldn’t have had as long of a career if he didn’t instill faith in each and every one of his coaches. The one thing coaches have always loved about him is his character, though. Over everything, he is a man of integrity and will be beloved in the locker room.
What we don’t know yet is whether or not the Bears will carry three quarterbacks. However, I doubt they will. If they chose to do so, it would likely be Tyler Bray as the third guy on the depth chart. Bray knows Nagy’s offense and would be an asset strictly because of the familiarity. He may end up on the practice squad, but we’ll see.
