Trade guard(s) with an expiring deal?

The Bulls currently have three guards entering the final year of their contract. Is it possible the Bulls get any value for them from another team looking at free agency of 2019 being the biggest opportunity? If so, Chicago could have a little more money to work with this summer, just in case.

Here are their three salaries for the 2018-2019 season:

Justin Holiday: $4.38 million

Jerian Grant: $2.6 million

Cameron Payne: $3.26 million

The most talented out of the group is probably Holiday, who played significant minutes for the Bulls much of last season. In fact, even though the Bulls could likely work out a deal with him, Holiday might be the only one worth keeping for the future.

Holiday could end up being a solid addition off the bench for any team, but might benefit the Bulls to keep him around another year or two. Holiday averaged just over 12 points and four rebounds per game last year while starting all 72 games he appeared in.

Payne and Grant are the two who I would love nothing more than for the Bulls to get rid of somehow. To this day, I still don’t know how Payne has a career in the NBA. Watching him play is cringe-worthy at times. Both of them, though, were acquired as add-ons in previous trades.

I know the goal now is to get younger, so seeing any of these guys go wouldn’t surprise me. Although none of them are even 30 years old, I really think Hoiberg and the front office will try and go as young and athletic as possible in the future.
