What does the draft strategy look like?

I saw a pretty hilarious tweet recently that actually made some sense if you are a Bulls fan. The gist of it was essentially, “The NBA owes the Bulls a no. 1 pick for what it did to Derrick Rose.”

I laughed. Then, I thought, I’d take it.

Unfortunately for Chicago, they did not win the lottery. In fact, they lost — big time. Not only did they not work their way into the top five, but they actually slid back a spot to no. 7 overall from their projected-sixth selection.

Depending on who does fall to the Bulls, though, I’m wondering if they have a certain position that doesn’t make sense to them. If at no. 7, there is a player whom another team covets, could they trade back a bit and gain assets in return? That could be a possibility if one of two guys don’t fall to them.

What exactly is the Bulls’ top priority in the draft? Right now, it looks like finding another wing player to pair with LaVine, assuming he’s back. Everybody wants Michael Porter Jr. to go to the Bulls — even Porter himself, judging much of his social media.

Porter, although his injury is a bit nerve-wrecking, could be a great fit, really anywhere. With the Bulls, though, he’d give them an immediate-impact player with superstar potential.

If not Porter, maybe Mo Bamba falls. If he does, the Bulls would get a dominant big man who is a tough player to score on in the paint. I’d love that scenario if Porter doesn’t end up a Bull.

The good news is, the Bulls will end up with a great player no matter what. The question remains, though, who is at the top of their draft board and which position are Forman and Paxson focused on?
