Chicago Bears: Diving into notable moves following rookie minicamp
By Ryan Heckman
Notable Cuts
Howard Jones, OLB
The Bears cut ties with veteran outside linebacker Howard Jones, who appeared in four games with the team last season. Prior to signing with Chicago, he played two seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Some may have thought this was a little soon to release Jones, who might have had more to offer throughout training camp, but it’s clear Nagy may be looking elsewhere for younger talent at the position.
Travis Averill, OL
A former Boise State Bronco, 24-year-old Travis Averill signed a future/reserve contract with the Bears in January of this year. Averill played offensive guard.
Cameron Lee, OL
A hometown guy, Cameron Lee played guard at Illinois State and was first signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent last year. He suited up for the final two games last season against the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings.
Nyles Morgan, LB
Nyles Morgan was a guy who might have been looked at late in the draft, but wound up not hearing his name called. The former Notre Dame inside linebacker was just signed by the Bears last week, but they decided to let him go after the weekend. It seems as though Morgan had a pre-existing injury the Bears were unaware of, per CBS Sports.
