Is Aaron Lynch being overlooked?

One of the things you will see all over the place right now is the question about the Bears’ pass rush. Drafting Kylie Fitts in the sixth round didn’t exactly inspire confidence in the position. Sure, Fitts was fantastic in college — when he was on the field.

Fitts has missed several games over the last two seasons due to injury, so no one is counting on him as a sure thing just yet.

But, my question is, why isn’t Aaron Lynch being talked about more? A lot of guys I respect had him pegged as a Bear even before free agency started, simply because of his ties to Fangio and his youth. The guys over at the Bears Bar Room Radio Network talked about Lynch being a great fit months ago — and then it happened.

Lynch was actually fairly productive under Fangio. You saw his play dip after Fangio came to Chicago. Lynch is still just 25 years old — I repeat, he’s only 25 years old! It was clear that he had a relationship with Fangio and flourished under his leadership.

Why couldn’t he come to the Bears and do the same thing? Sometimes, environment has a huge effect on certain players. If Lynch was hit that hard after Fangio left, sure, I understand that his play suffered and he was somewhat buried on a depth chart with a lot of guys there.

I fully expect Lynch to win the starting job opposite of Leonard Floyd and win it handedly. Many may think this could be a closer competition, but honestly, who else is going to compete right away? Fitts might be a practice squad candidate, for all we know.

Lynch is a good football player, period. I think he not only wins the job, but that he plays well and cements his status at that position for the next few years.
