Chicago Bulls: 5 veteran point guards that could add value
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bulls will need to add some veteran talent through the offseason in order to help the young guys along. These five point guards may suffice.
If you have kept up with our continuing coverage and previewing of the Chicago Bulls’ offseason, you know that they will not be big players this summer when it comes to free agency. None of the top names out there will want to come to Chicago because there likely isn’t going to be a chance to win now.
It looks like the Bulls will have to take the route traveled by the Philadelphia 76ers. They need to build the team through top draft picks, for now. Once they hit on a few draft selections, then they may be more attractive to the big names come summer time.
At the moment, when it comes to free agency, I don’t see any position as being out of the question. The main core consists of Lauri Markkanen, Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine (if re-signed) and Bobby Portis. Outside of those guys, I don’t see anybody on the roster who is someone the team absolutely wants to have on the roster in the future.
Speaking of Dunn, he’ll enter next season as the starting point guard. While he showed a lot of promise in his first season with the Bulls, he could use some help.
Currently, the Bulls have Cameron Payne and Jerian Grant under contract behind Dunn. Neither of those necessarily drive fear into the hearts of opposing teams. Could the Bulls sign another point guard? Oh, of course. Anytime you can add value to your team, you do it regardless.
If the Bulls were to go after any veteran point guards this summer, they could do it in such a way that would also help build for their future. Check out five veteran point guards who are still young enough to add value not only this year, but in the coming years, for the Bulls.
