Chicago Bears: Previews and projections for defense in 2018
gTruthfully, Chicago Bears fans just can’t help themselves in the end. It’s something that can simultaneously be really frustrating and somewhat endearing at the same time.
No matter how outdated the Bears’ offense is or how much the game itself changes, it’s always about defense.
The specter of 1985 and the magic of that defensive unit will take quite a while to shake off. And maybe if the Bears can approach that level of defensive dominance again, they’ll find themselves once again hoisting a Lombardi Trophy.
Well, that’s probably not exactly how this will work, but having a perennially strong defense doesn’t hurt your chances. And the Chicago Bears kept angling for that long-term success this offseason.
They brought back their entire defensive backfield, which is still filled with promise.
They added a little bit of firepower along the front line to go with the monstrous Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman and the up-and-coming duo of Jonathan Bullard and Roy Robertson-Harris.
And they nabbed another defensive cornerstone at linebacker to go with some intriguing new faces that could play significant roles in transforming this defense if all goes according to plan.
Let’s take a look at how each Chicago Bears defensive position group may fare in 2018.
