Chicago Bears: 5 veterans who must step up in 2018
By Ryan Heckman
Danny Trevathan
Danny Trevathan hasn’t played a full 16 games since his second year in the league, back with the Denver Broncos. In his two years with the Bears, he has played a total of 21 out of a possible 32 games. This has primarily been due to injury issues, as well as a suspension from a nasty hit on Green Bay Packers wideout Davante Adams last season.
When healthy, Trevathan is one of the better linebackers in the league. He is still relatively young, too, at 28 years old. Trevathan plays fast and aggressive, which will pair up nicely with a similar guy like rookie Roquan Smith. The two figure to be the surefire starters in week one against those aforementioned Packers.
The problem. like I said, has been Trevathan’s health. Tick-tack type of injuries have kept him from playing at 100 percent at times. He’s also had more serious injuries like fractures and a patellar tendon tear keep him out extensive playing time. Will he finally play a full season? Time will tell.
If the Bears’ defense wants to take that leap from top-10 to top-5 in 2018, Trevathan absolutely needs to be one of the centerfolds of the group.
