The Chicago White Sox are certainly not going to win anything this season, but how long will it be until they can contend in the AL Central?

After finishing the 2017 season with 67 wins in the first year of the rebuild, the Chicago White Sox were hoping to take a step forward this season. But after winning only nine of their first 33 games, it appears that 2018 will be more about development than about winning games.

At the current pace, the White Sox will finish with 45 wins this season. The last time the team finished with less than 50 wins in a season was 1932 when they went 49-102.

Though this type of season wasn’t completely unexpected with a young team in transition, it doesn’t make it any easier to stomach for Chicago White Sox fans. Watching your team invent new ways to lose games on a daily basis is never fun for anyone.

But the constant reminder is to “trust the process.” There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s very dim at the moment.

It’s not as if there isn’t any talent on the current roster because there is, just not enough.

But they’re coming. And when they do, this team should be built to win.

For now, though, the roster will continue to consist of a few core guys who will still be around when things matter and several guys who are just placeholders.

How will the White Sox decide the wheat from the chaff, and when will the harvest finally come due?
