Why the Chicago Bulls will re-sign Zach LaVine
2. A complementary piece
Sure, it’s natural to think that some struggle for dominance may arise between Dunn and LaVine going forward should they both remain on the Bulls.
In fact, both LaVine and Dunn has more or less already admitted that this strife will come.
After taking over as the teams starting point guard, Dunn clearly started to assert himself as one of the alpha personalities and leaders of the team. Plus, he played pretty well too.
Meanwhile, LaVine is also a confident, assertive player and believes he can be an elite player in the league. And the Bulls, of course, are very much counting on that.
If the two can learn to co-exist and play off of one another, though, they seem to compliment each other rather well.
Firstly, they do have some strong chemistry when they get out and run together on the break and both have that attacking mentality in transition. They showed that off in their brief time together in Minnesota, and it’s still apparent now.
And their contrasting skill sets actually provide an interesting balance between the two.
Dunn, while developing his offensive game, is not a pure scorer by nature. LaVine is.

Meanwhile, Dunn’s defensive prowess allows LaVine, a generally subpar defender, to play a weaker matchup and save energy on the offensive end.
Given time to gel together, they can form a fairly potent 1-2 punch in the Chicago Bulls’ backcourt. The key will be to recognize when to look for the other and not hoard the ball unnecessarily. We don’t need to see Jimmy Butler vs. Derrick Rose 2.0.
LaVine and Dunn can be above-average players together on this team together and make each other better players. They just have to commit to it.
