Chicago Bears: Post-NFL Draft offensive projections for 2018
By Ryan Heckman
Trey Burton
Projections:
-
45 receptions
-
504 receiving yards
-
5 receiving touchdowns
-
1 touchdown pass?
Like I’ve said with prior players, some people will hate this projection — and that’s OK. Everybody wants to think a certain few guys will blow up, but when you start doing the math, it’s simply not possible.
The 45 receptions for Trey Burton might be on the low end, and it might not be. But, I think the yardage and touchdown totals could be spot on. I cannot stress this enough: Think balanced. That’s the name of the game when looking at Nagy’s offense and taking into consideration the weapons he has at his disposal.
Let me say this, quickly, before moving on. When I talk about balance under Nagy, I’m looking at his offense last year in Kansas City and I see one glaring difference: The Chiefs had one dynamic running back.
The Bears have two. If you think Cohen is just going to play second fiddle, think again. There are a lot of touches to go around, and the big-time numbers aren’t something you should necessarily expect from multiple pass-catchers.
Adam Shaheen
Projections:
-
27 receptions
-
240 receiving yards
-
3 receiving touchdowns
Burton’s arrival certainly hurts Adam Shaheen, but I do believe he will be used heavily in the red zone and on third down. I like the idea of having Shaheen in there inside the five and on goal-line type of formations because he gives Trubisky a towering target to loft it up to.
These numbers don’t look huge, but Shaheen will have his moments to shine. Some of those catches are going to be in critical moments. Don’t overlook the second-year man just because he’s behind Burton now.
