Chicago Bears: Why Mitch Trubisky will be a top 10 QB in 2018
By Ryan Heckman
When the Bears needed a conversion in a tough spot, Trubisky delivers.
Something you see a lot of younger quarterbacks struggle with early in their careers is the inability to stay calm under pressure in a tough spot. 3rd-and-long is one of the consistently tough situations quarterbacks are placed in every game.
The great ones know how to attack these situations and come through with big-time throws. Incredibly, Trubisky ranked third in the NFL over his rookie campaign in 3rd-and-long situations.
This will give his head coach confidence in calling the right play in these situations in the future. Nagy understands that nothing is off the table on 3rd-and-long. With a quick, smart and adaptable quarterback like Trubisky, you might seem some interesting play-calling out of Nagy under these circumstances.
If not creative, tricky play-calling, Trubisky still knows he can execute a simple call and make the correct read. Obviously the accuracy is there, but now his confidence in guys like Robinson and Burton on third down will play a huge role. Both of these guys could end up being huge security blankets when the offense needs a conversion.
If you notice a theme, here, Trubisky seems to have a lot of the tough areas covered. He takes care of the football. He’s great on third down when his team needs some big yardage. Additionally, he knows how to toss a nice deep ball as we’ll dive into next.
