Chicago Bears: Why Mitch Trubisky will be a top 10 QB in 2018
By Ryan Heckman
The offseason has been about giving Trubisky what he needs — weapons.
Like I mentioned before, last year’s team was a whole lot different. Much of the national media continues to pour in the praise upon the Bears organization for what they’ve been able to do in surrounding their young quarterback with necessary weapons.
Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton are all huge additions that will allow Trubisky’s development to move into overdrive over his sophomore year. Don’t sleep on the importance of Cody Parkey, either. Last year, the Bears’ kicking game inspired little to no confidence, thus maybe forcing the offense to try and do more in dire situations.
Again, thanks to our friends at Pro Football Focus, we found some intriguing nuggets in Sam Monson’s recent study on the Bears’ new weapons:
"Gabriel is a short and shifty receiver that excels in gaining yards after the catch and turning receiver screens into big plays. When Atlanta went all the way to the Super Bowl in 2016, Gabriel averaged 7.8 yards after the catch, which led the league. In 2015, Robinson led the league with 672 yards on deep targets (20-plus air yards). He caught 19 such passes (also leading the league) and dropped only one."
Something the Bears offense has not been known for in recent years — big plays — is about to change in a big way. Nagy loves to get creative, and Trubisky’s confidence has to be soaring to new levels with what he and his new weapons could be capable of.
These are not your 2017 Bears skill players. Oh no — they are much, much different. Get ready for a show.
