The Matt Nagy effect is real, folks.

Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs were tied for first in the NFL in percentage of plays run that featured an RPO (run/pass option). The exact number came in at 17.3%, tied with the Philadelphia Eagles.

When you look at both of those teams, you notice some similarities. First, Carson Wentz and Alex Smith are more mobile than most quarterbacks. They like to move in the pocket and have fantastic footwork. Second, both of those teams scored a lot of points last year.

When you look at Trubisky, you see many similarities between he and Smith. The sample size for Trubisky is much smaller, of course, because of his situation in 2017. John Fox and Dowell Loggains handcuffed their quarterback for the majority of his time on the field last year, so comparing numbers above isn’t exactly fair.

What that graphic represents is what to expect out of Trubisky this year. Like Smith, Trubisky is accurate and mobile. Under Nagy’s system, the second-year pro should flourish and see those numbers increase dramatically.

Nagy has worked with Pace to create a similar atmosphere to what he had in Kansas City. The Bears now have weapons like Taylor Gabriel and Tarik Cohen who might be able to play similar roles as Tyreek Hill did under Nagy. Trey Burton is already expected to take on the Travis Kelce role. Of course, Jordan Howard is a top running back and will give him a strong run game like Kareem Hunt did for Smith.

The pieces are lined up. Nagy has his quarterback ready to rock and roll.
