Chicago Bears: An Updated Post-Draft Depth Chart
Offensive Line
LT: Charles Leno Jr., Bradley Sowell, Brandon Greene
LG: James Daniels, Eric Kush, Jordan Morgan
C: Cody Whitehair, Hroniss Grasu, Averill Travis, Dejon Allen
RG: Kyle Long, Earl Watford, Rashaad Coward, Will Pericak
RT: Bobby Massie, Cameron Lee
If this group can stay healthy, my goodness business will be booming. The major addition of Daniels really improves the unit beyond scheme, but with versatility as well. I like the fact they will deploy him at left guard in the early onset while leaving the door open to kick him into the middle of the line.
Do you need a zone-blocking interior lineman? Well, that’s what the former Hawkeye is.
The one thing that does stick out to me is that Bobby Massie will be a free agent next season. He has played up and down the last two seasons, which to me indicates that he probably is not getting resigned next offseason.
It would’ve been nice if the Bears had a contingency plan to find his replacement in the draft. But I suppose they will make that transaction in the following offseason.
Thoughts regarding the deep interior:
- Kush is coming off of a hamstring tear but made some spot starts two seasons ago.
- Morgan was their fifth-round selection last year, so it’s interesting to see where he shows in the coming months.
- Coward is intriguing because he’s moving from defensive line to guard.
- Grasu may be on the chopping block this summer. He seemed to be a promising player early in his career, but a torn ACL back in 2016 really jeopardized his Bear’s tenure. If Chicago is lucky, they may be able to get a 2019 day three pick out of him before final cuts.
