Chicago Bears: Get hyped watching Anthony Miller’s top plays
By Ryan Heckman
Difficult catches made simple
Miller has tape that is chock full of these kinds of plays. See for yourself.
Even though he is under 6-feet tall, Miller has always shown us he has the knack for going up and hauling in the tough, contested catches. In this instance, he makes a catch that may or may not be ruled a catch in the NFL — about that new catch rule?
Regardless, he goes up and gets the ball in a red zone situation, making sure he secures the football going to the ground while knowing his landing will be far from clean. Though he is “undersized,” which is a word I’m sure this draft class is sick of hearing, Miller is good enough to haul in the touchdown.
At first glance, one might think, “that was a pretty good catch, but nothing special.”
Here’s what you’re missing: That was a horrendous throw. Miller has to completely twist his body around and reach behind, reversing his route and putting the brakes on in order to make the catch. The impressive thing about the play, if you go and watch it in its entirety, is that Miller goes on to gain 23 yards after his catch.
So, let’s recap: The ball is thrown behind Miller. Not only does he have to stop his route and put the brakes on, but he twists his body around awkwardly to haul in the pass. If he bobbles it, there’s a good chance it’s picked off. After making the catch, Miller scampers another 23 yards while avoiding a handful of defenders.
