Chicago Bears: 3 reasons why James Daniels was the perfect pick
Tremendous value pick
The main goal of the NFL Draft is finding talented players who will contribute to your team. However, it is an added bonus when you can do that with a player who was projected to go much earlier. Well, that is the case with James Daniels. Daniels was largely projected as a first-round selection. He certainly has first-round talent and plays a position that anchors the offensive line.
In the second round, general managers need to find players who will contribute right away. Ideally, they want to find day-one starters. Not only have the Bears found an immediate contributor, but a player who will likely start on day one. Daniels is incredibly athletic and has amazingly quick feet for a player his size. He is a very technically-proficient lineman, which is something that will appeal to offensive line coach Harry Hiestand.
The other thing that is impressive about Daniels is his ability to get to the second level so quickly and engage linebackers. With a running back like Jordan Howard who powers through the line, it will help him tremendously to have a guy like Daniels who can get out in front and open that hole in the second level. That is what will lead to big plays for Howard. It will also open up holes for Taylor Gabriel, Tarik Cohen, and Anthony Miller on those screen passes.
