Chicago Bears: Five best players available in the second round
James Daniels
Center, Iowa
The Bears have a question mark on their offensive line at right guard after they released Josh Sitton this past offseason. Pace left the door open for Cody Whitehair to move to guard, a position he is more than capable of playing. Kyle Long, when healthy, is one of the better offensive guards in the game.
The key though is health, and Long for the past couple seasons has dealt with shoulder and ankle injuries. Behind Long and Whitehair, you have Eric Kush and Jordan Morgan who the organization feels confident about. Kush is a quality backup interior linemen that can fill in at either guard or center in a pinch. Morgan has upside as a former 5th round pick, that could be given an opportunity to earn a starting spot.
Daniels is a guy that could step in right away, and similar to Whitehair a couple years ago, make an immediate impact. Daniels is a technically sound center that does a good job being on the same page with his offensive guards. As a pass blocker, Daniels has the foot quickness to mirror opposing defensive tackles in pass protection.
He also very capable of climbing to the second level and getting a body on defenders in pursuit. Pace has made it an objective to take care of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky this offseason. A solid plug-and-play center like Daniels would further help Trubisky development.
