Chicago Bears: Five best players available in the second round
Isaiah Oliver
Cornerback, Colorado
When you think of the strengths of the Bears roster you can make a case for running back with Jordan Howard coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. Tarik Cohen provides the offense with a change-of-pace back that is a threat to put the ball in the end zone anytime the ball is in his hands. You also can’t forget Benny Cunningham who is a jack-of-all trade’s style back.
Inside linebacker can be looked at as a strength with Danny Trevathan, Nick Kwiatkoski, and now Smith in the middle of that defense. Cornerback is an interesting position on the Bears because while you can make an argument that it’s a strength, there’s definitely room for improvement. The Bears cornerback duo of Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, while solid, struggled to get their hands on the football in 2017.
Oliver is an intriguing name that fell down to the second round that could definitely be a steal for the Bears at number 39. Oliver didn’t put up big interception numbers, but that mainly had to do with teams avoiding throwing to his side of the field. When they did, he made them pay as he displayed natural ball-hawk skills. As the Minnesota Vikings proved Thursday night, you can never have enough cornerbacks. A trio of Fuller, Amukamara, and Oliver would look menacing on paper.
