With the Chicago Bears hoping for one of a select few at no. 8 overall, could Josh Allen’s recent Twitter findings impact their positioning?

There is a strong possibility that the Chicago Bears could land either Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson or Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith on Thursday night with their no. 8 overall pick. The 2018 NFL Draft is chock-full of quarterbacks and there will likely be between three and five going in the first round — with four potentially going in the top 10.

One of those quarterbacks, Josh Allen from Wyoming, was at one point a rumored favorite to go no. 1 overall. While, at the moment, nobody knows what the Cleveland Browns are going to do, it appears Allen’s stock might take a last-minute fall.

Every year we see at least one player’s stock fall drastically on draft night due to some type of character issue — and those issues surface via social media. Leave it to someone to go dig up old tweets on a guy like Allen, and his stock may now be falling according to some.

I can tell you one thing — he’s not going no. 1.

Indeed, someone found old tweets from Allen that have been deemed to be racially-offensive. These tweets are several years old, and while they apply significantly to the story at hand, I will let you go find them if you wish. They’re offensive, unacceptable and not something we will publicly share here at Da Windy City.

While everybody is allowed to make mistakes, especially when they are young and not as smart, this is something much more serious and not something teams will look past in the blink of an eye.

With that said, if Allen’s stock falls a bit, that will largely impact teams ahead of the Bears and may encourage them to snag players like Nelson or Smith before the Bears can get to them. Pace is going to have to play this smart and not settle for someone less deserving of the no. 8 overall selection.

There are lots of feelings around that the Bears will trade back in the first round, and it could be even more of a possibility now that one less quarterback could go within the top 10. But, while the Bears’ chances of making a trade back are greater today, so are other teams’ because of the Allen situation.

There very well could be a battle to see who makes the most appealing offer on either side in order to trade back with a quarterback-needy team. Again, it all depends on who falls and just how far they do.

This draft day is already off to one heck of a start. Buckle up, it’s only getting more hectic from here on out!
