Chicago Bears: 5 solidified positions going into 2018 NFL Draft

Don’t ask me why Dion Sims is still on the roster. But, be thankful that he is hopefully the third option going into this next season. Sims as a third option is something I am more than fine with.
As for the other two guys, Burton and Adam Shaheen, they should see a decent amount of targets in 2018. Burton was brought in to play the Travis Kelce role in Chicago, according to Nagy. Shaheen, on the other hand, is a second-round pick from 2017 who is sure to see the field a good amount.
When the Bears signed Burton, some wondered what that meant for Shaheen. Was he a wasted pick? Had the Bears given up on him already? Of course not. Nagy knows as well as anyone that to be successful in the NFL today, you need two or three very good tight ends on your roster. Teams that run multiple tight end sets well enough will typically see a good amount of success — look at the Eagles last year.
Burton is one of the best route-runners in the NFL, for a tight end, and can be used just as a receiver in many ways. He’s also a guy that will see a handful of plays lined up in the back field, if Kansas City’s offense a year ago is any indication.
Shaheen will be more of a red zone threat, I’m sure. But, with a young and developing quarterback, you cannot have enough of those. Burton is going to be a security blanket on those underneath routes a lot of the time. Both Shaheen and Burton will provide Trubisky with two different, yet talented, weapons at the position.
I can’t wait to see how Nagy uses these guys. Oh, and obviously, the Bears will not draft a tight end this weekend.
