Top 10 Chicago Bulls of the 21st century
By Ryan Heckman
8. Elton Brand
Elton Brand is probably one of the most underrated power forwards of his time. He spent only two years with the Bulls — his first two seasons in the NBA — and made an impact that shouldn’t be forgotten.
Brand was a double-double machine. His two years with the Bulls, he averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds in both seasons. Not to mention, he put up a steal and a half to go with it, and he shot over 47 percent from the field.
If only the Bulls could have kept him longer. They decided to ship him out to the Los Angeles Clippers for Brian Skinner and Tyson Chandler. While Chandler was a defensive force most of the time, his inconsistency elsewhere wasn’t good enough to justify letting a guy like Brand go.
Imagine if Brand had spent more of his career in Chicago. In six of his first seven years in the league, he averaged a double-double. Had they been able to keep Brand around, they could have eventually paired him up with Ben Gordon. Now, would they have won a championship together? Probably not. But, it would have made those few years following Brand’s departure a lot easier to watch.
