Top 10 Chicago Bulls of the 21st century
By Ryan Heckman
1. Derrick Rose
As a Bulls fan, writing this last portion is incredibly difficult. Watching old tape of Derrick Rose and the things he could do prior to his being decimated by injuries is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Rose was a magician with the basketball in his hands. There was absolutely nothing left off the table for him. When he had the ball, you could expect virtually anything to happen — and most times, he succeeded in doing it.
Whether it was his high-flying dunks, acrobatic drives to the hoop or daggers to end games, Rose was absolutely magnificent to watch in a Bulls uniform. The entire story of the Bulls and Rose was magical. The Bulls were never supposed to receive the no. 1 overall pick, but they did — and the rest is history.
Rookie of the Year. All-Star. MVP. All-NBA Team.
He did it all.
“Why not me?” he once asked. “Why can’t I be the MVP?”
Then, he went out that year and he did it.
Rose is without a doubt, hands down the best player to play for the Bulls since the year 2000 — period, end of discussion, no’ ifs,’ ‘ands’ or ‘buts’ about it.
The kid from Chicago came home and led the Bulls to some unforgettable playoff runs, coming oh-so-close to a title a couple of times. Had it not been for the sudden downfall after his first major injury, Rose might just have a ring or two at this point and still be playing for the black and red.
Oh, what could have been.
