Chicago Bears: Top 10 draft picks under Ryan Pace
By Ryan Heckman
6. Safety Adrian Amos
As a fifth round pick, Adrian Amos has surpassed all expectations thus far. His rookie year in 2015 featured a lot of heavy hitting, which he had grown famous for at Penn State. In 2016, some said he had a down year, but that could have also been due to head coach John Fox holding the hand of his defensive coordinator and not allowing him to truly run his defense the way he wanted.
2016 was a bad year for most of the defense, so I’ll give him a pass there.
But, when you look at last season, the proof was in the pudding. Amos is a legitimate safety in this league, and a prime example of Pace going deep into the draft to find a stud.
Amos has been reliable over his three years with the Bears. He has played a total of 44 out of a possible 48 games and has remained healthy for the most part. In his three seasons, Amos has a combined 201 tackles, nine passes defended, three forced fumbles, two recoveries, an interception and a defensive touchdown.
He is as hard-hitting as they come and perfectly slotted next to a guy like Eddie Jackson. Together, they bring totally different strengths and feels to the secondary. They can both do very different things but do them well, which is again an example of Pace’s vision when drafting. He knows what to look for and has continued to find solid players later on.
