Chicago Bears: Top 10 draft picks under Ryan Pace
By Ryan Heckman
8. Defensive tackle Eddie Goldman
If you talk to teammates of Eddie Goldman and ask them about this dude, they all rant and rave about him. Goldman’s potential as a dominant nose tackle has always been there, but he continues to go overlooked and under-appreciated.
2017 was a down year in terms of sacks, as he came up with only 1.5 in 15 games. 2016 saw him play only six games due to injury. His rookie campaign in 2015 featured his highest sack total at 4.5. Goldman does have a combined 84 tackles in 36 games with the Bears.
Goldman’s brute strength is fantastic, and if he can take another step in 2018, his productivity could really jump off the charts. I am sure Pace is counting on him to take that step, too, because he is one of just two players from Pace’s first draft with the Bears to both play significant snaps and undoubtedly hold a roster spot going into this year.
For a big man, Goldman is really good with his hands. Combine that with the strength to overpower most offensive linemen in the NFL, and this kid could be special. We’ve been saying that for three seasons, though, so in 2018 he needs to put it all together and come out with a dominant year like he is capable of providing.
