9. Defensive lineman Vita Vea, Washington

6-foot-4, 347 pounds and quick — those words are not usually formulated into the same sentence. But, defensive lineman Vita Vea out of Washington is described well with them.

Vea would be another intriguing option for the Bears later in the first if they were to end up with a pick in that area. He has the chance to be absolutely dominant under the right coaching, and Fangio could give him just that.

Vea is a force to be reckoned with. His quickness is better than most at his position, like I said. But, his play style is reckless. His hand movement and technique allows him to shed blockers in a hurry, and once he’s on his way to the quarterback or back field, there’s no stopping him.

Most agree that he would be best in a 4-3 defense, but his versatility could easily be transitioned to a 3-4 style like that of the Bears. He would give Chicago a nice run-stopper on the edge but also a guy who would go get quarterbacks just like his would-be counterpart, Hicks.

If the Bears were also picking between 15 and 23, I could definitely see where Vea would be tempting. He’s got to be toward the top of their board, and just in case of a trade, keep an eye on him.
