1. Guard Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame

We made it. The number one spot on the Bears’ big board is Notre Dame offensive guard Quenton Nelson.

“But you don’t take a guard inside the top 10!”

No, not normally. But, Nelson is a special case.

You hear the word “bully” a lot when listening to conversations about Nelson, and it couldn’t be closer to the truth. The brute force he plays with is unmatchable. He takes every snap personally, and doesn’t like to lose a matchup.

Nelson’s tape features a body-slam or two — that should tell you something right away. The man is not to be messed with.

More from Chicago Bears

Chicago can get themselves, in all likelihood, a Pro Bowl player at the guard position, and have their offensive line solidified for the most part. They would be helping all aspects of the offense by selecting Nelson, but most importantly — the quarterback.

Protecting Mitchell Trubisky is priority number one right now. Giving him weapons, protecting him and developing him are all part of the master plan that is the 2018 offseason. Nelson would fit right into that plan, and I guarantee you this pick would make every player on the offensive side of the ball quite happy.

If Nelson slips to no. 8, there’s not a whole lot of doubt the Bears will pass on him. You can book it.
