4. Defensive end Marcus Davenport, UTSA

I know the names like Chubb and Landry are big ones, and I’m well aware of their level of talent. But, I still believe my favorite pass rusher in this class is Marcus Davenport out of the University of Texas San Antonio.

Davenport stands tall as a man among boys. The guy is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound monster off the edge. I’ve talked about him previously, and I’m absolutely in love with the potential he would bring to the Bears defense. Davenport ran a very solid 4.58 40-yard dash at the combine, which is an impressive time for someone as big and tall as he is.

As a guy who is so tall and has a little room to add weight, Davenport is still fairly strong. He makes a great push off the line and uses his hands well to disorient blockers. His hips and footwork compliment his hands well, seeing as he can change direction real quickly in mid-rush.

Davenport is another one of those guys I would love to see paired up with Floyd. The damage that could be done is untapped. Floyd has yet to reach his potential, and Davenport’s ceiling is even higher. With the right coaching, scheme and a little strength added, Davenport could be a premier pass rusher in the league.
