Marcus Davenport

UTSA

Defensive end

When you frequently get comparisons to Jadeveon Clowney of the Houston Texans, teams are definitely going to be interested. That’s the case for former UTSA edge rusher Marcus Davenport. Davenport is all of 6-foot-6, 264 pounds with long arms, possessing very fast straight-line speed.

Davenport is scheme-versatile. While he may seem to be more of a fit as a traditional 4-3 defensive end, Davenport rushed the passer plenty from a two-point stance back at UTSA. That type of versatility would be welcomed by Fangio.

Fangio runs plenty of 4-3 alignments in his defense, which will give Davenport a chance to put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer. Then when switching back to a 3-4 alignment, Davenport can stand up and do his thing.

If you were looking for a prospect at the position that Pace might be zeroed-in on, Davenport checks every box. He has raw athletic ability off the edge. His size is very intriguing for coaches to work with, and he’s a small school kid (we know how much Pace likes that type).

The knock on Davenport is that he didn’t€™ consistently show that bend around edge in the college ranks and was more of a straight-line pass rusher. Compared to someone like Landry, who is more likely to contribute right away at the next level, Davenport might take some time.
