Harold Landry

Boston College

Defensive end

If there’€™s a player at this position that makes the most sense for the Bears, it’€s Harold Landry. Landry is known for his ability to dip low around the edge, rip away from blockers with quick hands and speed and get to the quarterback. Landry is a quick-twitch athlete that, at this point in his development, wins purely off being quicker and more athletic than the guy across from him.

With the Bears early on, Landry could play a similar role as how the Atlanta Falcons used linebacker Vic Beasley over his first two years in the league. In this case, Fangio would be telling him, on obvious passing situations, to pin his ears back and get after the quarterback, and don’t worry about anything else.

He’s still a work in progress as a pass rusher. Right now, he doesn’t€™ have more than one counter move and he needs to add strength to help with power rushes. However, if he’s around the right coaches that can add to what he already has as a pass rusher, you could potentially have a Pro Bowl-caliber player.

If there’s one thing that will put this defense over the top, like I said, it’s getting a complimentary edge rusher to go with Floyd. Landry not only can be that, but he can also be a young, franchise building block on the defense. Landry has perennial Pro Bowl potential at the next level.
