James Washington is a bit of a wildcard. He’s built like a running back, but plays receiver — and plays it well. The guy is a pretty athletic receiver for weighing 213 pounds and standing under 6-feet tall. Just looking at his numbers from his last season with Oklahoma State, you can tell anybody will be getting a real playmaker.

Like I said, at 213 pounds, to be able to run the 40-yard dash in the time he did is quite impressive. He’s a stocky, yet athletic kid. A 120-inch broad jump for someone so short is also eye-popping. He did not disappoint at the combine, that’s for sure. It’s no wonder the Bears met with him there.

If Nagy wants another guy to take the top off the defense, look no further. Washington is phenomenal at breaking away downfield and tracking the deep ball. The fact that he wound up with an FBS-leading 815 deep-pass yards last season is incredible.

I understand grabbing a receiver in the second round typically means you’re looking to fill a top-tier role, but Washington wouldn’t be under that kind of pressure coming into Chicago. Pace has done a great job building the offense with multiple weapons of different kinds, and Washington’s skillset could be used as-is, which would make him immediately comfortable.

Not being asked to do too much, Washington would surely reap the benefits of a system like Nagy’s. Lots of movement and opportunities for shifty guys like Washington to get open — he’s got to like the potential in Chicago.
